MY09 owners - what's under your passenger seat?

Postby subi_man on Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:57 am

I was helping a MY09 owning mate install a UHF radio, 240v inverter etc on the weekend, and under the passenger seat I found quite a large electrical box that my Triton doesn't have. By the number of wires coming into and out of the box I would say its something to do with the engine computer - if so, it's not a good place for it given the lack of water sealing others have experienced ! (It's also possibly a small amp for the stereo, which would explain why the later ones sound so much better then mine  )

Does anyone know for sure what this does? This leaves NO room for a carPC under the passenger seat for anyone with a MY09!!

Cheers
Andrew

Subi, ECUs will only have 1 wire going in and out, well by that I mean a wiring harness. The connector could be as wide as your index finger is long. I think your amp is a better guess. Tried unplugging it to see what doesn't work?

Subi - I have an MY09 but VR and it has nothing under the passenger seat. When I installed my UHF, I was looking for the area that the bluetooth box would have lived that others had talked about behind the ash tray/ciggie lighter area - but found nothing. All that was there was a 'G' meter for airbag/SRS system and a pink box which I thought was the ECU for airbag system as it had wires going into the G meter.

My guess is that they have moved the bluetooth box to under the seat for GLX-R owners. :?:

it is definately a small amplifier for the premium sound system. i had to rip mine out so i could fit a bigger amp.

You reckon it's able to be retrofitted to an earlier model Triton amalinze? assuming it's worth going to the trouble

Why would you bother Subi? Mitsi's are going to charge a fortune :x for something probably sub-standard to an aftermarket amp anyway unless you can get one second hand. The wiring could also be an issue given our systems weren't designed with this addition in mind.

Thats interesting - and makes sense too. It doesn't mention an amp in the specs sheets anywhere - perhaps a new addition for the MY09 ? Anyone with an earlier than MY 09 GLX-R have and/or know where the amp lives ?

And where is the bluetooth box located ?

Earlier GLX-R's don't have an amp mate

And the Bluetooth brain on mine is under the front of the centre gearshift/console area

Only put an amp in if your going to update the speakers. and then dont use the standard one. amps are pretty cheap when you look into it.

my 09 vr auto has no box under the PS
so i stuck a 1000 watt invertor in there.
and i was under the impression that the vr had the same stereo components as the glxr

MY09 GLX-R and GLS get the mitsubishi 'power sound' or something so yep its an amplifier.

not a bad sound for a OE commercial vehicle but you full on stereo heads would scoff at it......

so that's an amplifier AND GLX-R piece of cr@p floor mats i got for an extra $4000........ :o :o :o :o :x :x :x :x
