I was speaking to 4wd26 the other week/month.
Our discussion revolved around the instantaneous fuel consumption gauge on the ScanGaugeII displaying huge fuel consumption figures. eg 60+L/100km and even showing 20+ L/100km when your foot is off the throttle!

I said that mine was also doing it but it used to be accurate. I suggested that a mitsu ECU reflash might have changed the way that figure is calculated and that has thrown the ScanGaugeII out. I was so full of #hit that day.

It turn out I forgot that I had used my ScanGauge in another car for a while and it threw the fuel usage/economy calculation right out.
I have now retuned the Scangauge to my car using the fillup function and the instantaneous fuel consumption gauge now appears to be displaying a realistic figure.

If you have a ScanGaugeII, dont worry about using the LHK gauge until the ScanGauge is accurately calculating the fuel usage.

If you hardly have to change the figure when using the fillup function then its tuned!
This usually takes about 3 to 4 tank fillups.

FYI: It will always show 9999 LHK when you are standing still. This is not an error..... as you will consume an infinite amount of fuel per 100km as you are not moving and will never travel 100km (does that make sense?)

Thanks Brett,
That has just confirmed what I have also found.
I was under the misguided impression that the guage would work "straight out of the box". The first run up the coast and getting very ordinary consumption figures had me worried.

I reread the manual.
reset the unit as I had stuffed up the fillup mode

I have since filled up a couple more times and all seems to be settling down quite nicely.
I probably have to add a post in the "ML Guzzler" thread BUT I havent had a tank yet that I havent engaged 4x4. So It cannot be too bad.

I like the unit, and once I got rid of the "1 D 10 T" error every thing works as expected.

Cheers

For those of you who have a ScanGauge with X-Gauge, I have put together a few new X-Gauges.

Display trip computer data as an X-Gauge - display current trip, todays trip, yesterdays trip or current fuel tank fuel consumption.

Engine Kilowatt output. - Display instantaneous kilowatt output.

Turbo Boost. - a 'work around' to calculate and display approximate turbo boost.

Visit here for information on X-Gauge coding.

Wow, nice work, thanks Brett - this gives me something to do on this return to winter (I saw 4degrees in Orange yesterday, can't imagine how cold it might be in YOUR neck of the woods :o )

OFF TOPIC:

My weatherstation said the air temp was 1.5degrees and -5.4degrees with wind chill.....we had hail, then it snowed for an hour or so!

the triton does have an electronic throttle, it does have a 50mm throttlebody, i am in the process of fitting a 60mm throttle body.
btw the scanguage plugs into the obd2 port, above where the drivers legs are.

Does everyone have their Scan gauge II set on 'Deisel B'? (on the 3.2d-just getting in before the petrol guys say something... )

I do. I did the test out of the manual and I think it's right :?

mmmmmm.... might have to have another fiddle.
The readings at the moment seem perfectly reasonable.
I've put about 3 or 4 tanks in it with the gauge in use and used the fillup setting.

Might have to do some more reading..

Thanks subi.

ahhh but maybe MINE is wrong - I normally get perfect tank fillup readings, until I chuck a trailer on the back and then the accuracy goes out the window :?

Im in two minds whether or not im gonna buy a scangauge. apart from show you the readings and let you see what is goin on, is it actually going to save you money somehow and pay for itself over time??

I have a cheap ass OBDII scanner i got off ebay that allows me to clear engine codes if hooked up to my carputer.

So is the $230 for a scangauge nessesary/worth it?

I'm enjoying the Scangauge.
I just have the GLX, so I haven't got any of the factory readings/computer in the dash.

I like the fact that it will tell me how fast my kids drive it when they think I can't find out.
That saves me fuel I suppose.

I didn't really buy mine as a cost saving exercise.
It may help in the future if I notice Turbo Boost or Manifold Air Pressure decreasing.
I may be able to get it fixed before something major happens.

They read all the info from the engine computer via the plug under the dash. They have a programmable trip computer built in, and be programmed to show speed (handy if you have changed your tyre size), boost and other things. You can also clear check engine lights. Handy bit of gear

They are small and can be mounted anywhere, but mine is above my rear-view mirror.

How does the scangauge go for accuracy when it come to fuel used and kms left because the OME one doesn’t even come close and it reads from the ECU as well

I have recently set up my Scangauge and have now put in my 2nd tank of fuel, when i entered/Adjusted the litres used i have noticed that the engine kilowatts reading has also changed.
At idle my kilowatts was reading 9.2 kw, after adjusting the fuel used my kilowatts at idle is now reading 4.2kw, the kiloawatts at higher rpm has also decreased but i cant give you a kw @ revs comparison.
My question is, does the kw reading at idle match what you guy's are seeing or have i adjusted my fuel usage incorrecly which has had an adverse effect on the kw reading?

Regards,
Darren
