Hi all,

Just picked up some new rubber yesterday, BF A/Ts 265/70/16 and they felt a bit firm on the drive home so wondered what pressure everyone else out there with these tyres runs them at unloaded, loaded and in the bush???
Currently they set at 40psi all round.

Run my BFs at 34 general running. Any higher and gets a bit loose in the wet and harsh ride particulary after they start to age and rubber gets harder. Any lower than 32 gets loose and a roll. They have now done 75000 and wearing fairly even. On the beach they need to get down to around 14 to work properly but I usually start at 18 and drop depending on how soft the sand is.

Postby Try-it-on on Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:15 pm

Just went to check my tyre pressures - 17" wheels on an MN Glx-r - and decided to do things right and check the tyre placard, and found it lists the pressure as 29psi
That seems pretty low to me. What does everyone run their pressures at on the 17" wheels on the MN?
I know this thread is 16" wheels, but seemed better to post here than start another thread on tyres.

i was consistently running 35's (cold) and every time i went to a tyre place for rotation etc. i was shown they were feathering on the blocks and told to increase to 40 PSI. (muddies though)

i would not run 40 PSI with the standard suspension as it was WAY too bouncy and dangerous, but i can and do with the aftermarket suspension.

in any case i would always run above 35 PSI but some people like lower pressures. The LT versions have a fairly stiff sidewall anyway and running lower pressures just stresses them in my opinion so another reason i run higher pressures when on the black top.

Go to the NewHilux website as they had plenty of discussion on this topic.....

Heya Snowman - you don't find the dobinson's bouncy anyways...?

What are you running on the rear (4+2 med)?. I just had the rear shocks replaced with Bilsteins as it used to launch over the bumps (even with zero pressure in the bags and constant 210kg on the rear)

Bilstein rear shocks seem a fair bit better?

The “hot” tyre pressure should be 4psi higher than the cold tyre pressure. For example, if I if run my tyre pressures at 35psi (measured when the tyres are cold) and measure the pressures again after an hour or so on the road, they should be at 39psi: that is 4psi difference between the cold and hot pressure.

If the hot tyre pressure is more than 4psi higher than the cold pressure, then start (cold) pressure was too low: if the hot tyre pressure is less than 4psi higher than the cold pressure, then the start pressure is too high…

Do a google search for more info.

spose i should update this... done 10,000km on my bfg a/ts and i've found 38psi to be the best.
35 was to spongy when cornering at speed.. the general ride was definitely nice and smooth though, and 40 i found to be a bit to bouncy with the standard suspension as snowman pointed out earlier.

off road, in the bush i go down to 25-30 depending how rocky, and if there a lot of mud like geraldine its down to at least 20.

Normally set mine at about 36 front and rear, 42 in the rear if I'm loaded up for a weekend/trip.
