The thing I don't like about the max tracks is that it looks like you are expecting to get stuck.
Sort of says my truck can't do it.

Not that I have an ego problem mind.....it's just Snow Flake feels the humiliation from her fellow fourby's.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

You could always buy a set just to rent to Hiluxes. ;)
That way they technically aren't for Snow Flake but a source of income to supplement other more useful mods to Snow Flake...

To dredge this topic up again. Does anyone have a recomendation for a snatch strap?
Mine is just a tow strap and is plenty frayed.

At ARB they had 8000lb can't remember the price maybe $70 and 11000lb for about $130 I think.

What do you guys have and how much?

Homer, an 8000lb snatch is the go, you can pick up a brand name one for anywhere between $50>$100. Don't go for the heavier strap as they need alot more force to load them up and are designed for bigger vehicles, also I would'nt be doing a snatch recovery with a tow strap  . At the moment I have a couple of maxitrack straps from repco (re-branded ironman so I believe) and the one in use has done a fair few difficult pulls without any sign of wear. One good thing to do is keep track of how many times the strap has been used and how old it is as once they're opened they go off over time/lose their elasticity. I'd chuck it after about 5 years or 30/40 recoverys

I read somewhere that you should ditch the snatch strap after 10 heavy pulls/snatches!?!?!?!???

your right ml-, i think them max trax are crap unless you buy about 20 of em,other wise you will hve to have some one putting them in front of you all the way down the beach, once out of the sand you have to keep going at a speed or you will just bog in again

yeah I wouldn't use them much past 10/15 extreme pulls but not every recovery is an extreme one

Yeah, im sure they are fine for towing ppl out and not snatching...i have pulled a few ppl out with mine, and tree's, tractors and bobcat etc etc... and mine only has some muddy marks :D

Thanks guys, I was thinking of going 8000lb because I'm a cheapskate lol.

I've only towed people out with my strap except the last Hilux on Fraser but we had a snatch strap shackled to mine for length anyway.

Gee all you guys are good blokes, we all know TRITONS dont need recovering, you carry all that gear just to help a stranded hilux or navara on the trails. Keep up the good deeds fellas.

BTW, the best piece of recovery equipment is one of those 12 tonne excavators they use at tuff trucks.

Been invited out there soon as they need a recovery vehicle for a practise play day, one way to test the winch out.

To add to this serious discussion on Recovery Kits:

Because my truck is used in the bush for work I have had to chose everything carefully, the only thing that so far may not be workcover approved is the winch as Premier is the only brand which because of the braking system they have.

Anyways, you have seen the recovery kit I obtained yesterday a few posts above, so i have ben looking at the room that my St John kit takes up which is one of these Click to view larger picture but have now since come across this which looks pretty good and also takes up way less space.

Maybe this should have its own thread, but it part of my recovery kit anyway.

So has anyone got one of these and can comment ?

Hey Guys, I know this isn't exactly in my recovery kit, but, it is part of a recovery tool on my Triton.

I pulled most of the which wire off today just to see how good it was and I came across one bit wire that isn't quite the way it should be. It is around the 17-19m mark (I think anyway, I sorted out walked and guessed)

Do you think it needs replacing. Further on the spool I have noticed the same thing happening but not as bad.

I am as well, thinking I might have to spend a bit of money soon before I need it lol...I have a winch extension strap so of push comes to shove, I use that instead of brining a heap of wire out.
